The Columbus Dispatch : Editorial: Strike a balance

Troubled by increasingly sophisticated data mining by Internet marketers, U.S. Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Va., is drafting a bill to mandate that marketers tell consumers what information is being collected about them and then allow them to opt in or out, depending on the type of Web site.

His concern is well-founded, but if Congress acts, lawmakers should strike a balance that doesn't stifle Internet commerce but gives users the ability to maintain privacy...
