Technology advances and the global recession have collided, creating growth opportunities for virtual event companies.
San Francisco-based ON24 grew 40 percent in 2008, capitalizing on companies like Cisco Systems that canceled global sales meetings. Revenue is up several million dollars in 2009, though CEO Sharat Sharan would only say the company has revenue under $45 million. ON24 has hired more than 40 people this year, most in the Bay Area, and much of this growth is from a virtual event product it introduced in 2008 and that already generates 20 percent of ON24’s revenue.
